Kenyan-born Flavian came into farming almost by accident. Having moved to the UK at 15 from a childhood growing up in Kenya, he planned to go to university to study veterinary medicine. But, after not getting the grades he needed, he took a year out before completing his A-Levels where he undertook work experience in animal-related business in order to apply for vet school. After completing a week’s placement on a farm in Hampshire, he was offered a job there and ended up working there for his gap year. It was the beginning of his love for farming. Fast forward a decade, he is now working on a mixed, family farm looking after pigs and training to do butchery, which he is balancing with studying an MSc in Livestock Health and production with the university of London. It's his dream to one day run a farm of his own. Flavian shares his journey across various social media platforms and believes British agriculture offers exciting opportunities and he is already an ambassador for various programmes within the industry.
🐷 WEANING 🐷 Second best weaning ✅ Second heaviest weaner (pictured) ✅ 13 piglets weaned per sow this week with the heaviest weighing in at 14kg. They averaged at 10.5kg. We split them into 2 groups, smalls and bigs. With almost double the size between the smallest and biggest weaners, it's best to split them up at weaning and feeding them differently as the small ones would never catch up with competition at the feeder from the tanks.

Thank goodness the lighting was good in this photo coz the flash wasn't on #melaninonglowglow I've met some interesting characters in this cohort. Chirpy ones, funny ones, annoying ones and a few alcoholics...I've got a lot of time for all of you! Looking forward to visiting a lot of you and growing the friendships we've established whilst drinking like our lives depends on it.
