Poppy Burrough, 20

Apprentice Technician Engineer, JCB

Meet the Engineer

"It’s really important to promote there’s more to Agriculture than working on a farm and milking cows. The careers in the industry are endless"

Poppy is one of 10 young farmers who have been chosen to take the lead in what will be the National Farmers Union (NFU) first group of Student Ambassadors.

The 19-year-old engineer has always wanted to work with machinery and after studying her AS-Levels joined JCB as an apprentice.

Her daily work varies massively and includes being out in the field with the sales engineers demonstrating pieces of kit to potential customers, being involved in quality control and being in the workshop stripping or rebuilding machines.

Poppy has recently gained a Technician Membership with the Institution of Agricultural Engineers and has been chosen to become the National Farming Union's Student Ambassador.

Passionate about British food and education, she is also a STEM Ambassador for JCB.
